Welcome to Loki’s Patent Blog
Two years ago I started an initiative I called the ‘Coffee Table Questions’, the idea being that a regular schedule of exam-style questions would help me memorise the law, and be useful for other trainees preparing for some of the hardest professional exams that exist, particularly FD1. The response from fellow trainees was fantastic.
The Coffee Table Questions will be delivered in much the same style as they always have, and the first will be delivered on May 1st. Instructions for signing up can be found here.
This year, I finally passed FD1 at my third attempt. The game changer for me was not memorising even more facts, but understanding how to apply those facts effectively in this paper. The game changer(s), really, were my tutors last summer. They gave me their free time, asked for nothing in return, and completely changed my approach to this paper. It is that essence that I am hoping to capture with Loki’s Patent Blog.
With this blog, I am hoping to equip everyone with the tools to pass FD1 (and indeed, to apply to their practice), as my tutors equipped me. I intend to cover useful resources, exam techniques, time management techniques, and provide other insights over the course of the year that I hope you’ll find some value in.
I’ll never charge for this. One thing I do ask is that, if you feel the CTQs helped you pass in previous years, or if you consider over the course of the year that this blog has value to you, consider donating to 2021’s charity. There is more information on the ‘About’ page of the blog.
I look forward to hearing from you over the course of the year.
