The Mission

I started this blog in my free time having passed the exam due, in part, to the dedication and time freely given by my tutors.

As such, I will never make payment a requirement for the website or for the coffee table questions I send by e-mail, and I do not expect to turn this into a profitable venture. I hope that over time it will become a valuable free resource for the profession, and increase the standard of service that we can deliver as professionals to our clients.

However, what I would ask is that if you are so minded, please consider making a donation to a charity that is, I'm sure, very close to many of us.

Macmillian Cancer Support ensure that nobody going through cancer is alone. If you or someone you love is going through it, you can call them and speak directly to a cancer nurse or a support worker to get answers or advice. As if that isn’t incredible enough, they demand absolutely nothing in return. They can only do that if they are supported.

If you have found this blog or the materials thereon helpful, and you feel able to make a donation to their cause, then I’d encourage you to do so. If not, maybe consider it once you pass the exams. If you feel that there’s another charitable cause that you would prefer to support, then I’d encourage you to do that instead.

The target might seem like a strange number: it's the amount required to pay for a nurse to help someone living with cancer for a week. Let's get them that week. I'll start us off.

Loki made it 64% of the way to his goal for 2023!

Thanks to the 2022 cohort for getting us to 100% in the previous year - you remain the best!

So far, we have raised an incredible £2435 for MacMillan Cancer Support.

Loki’s Patent Blog is looking for sponsors for 2024.

About

My name is Andy Weaver, and this is Loki’s Patent Blog.

This blog is an expansion of my previous ‘FD1 Coffee Table Questions’ initiative which I began a couple of years ago. The aim of this blog is to provide you with materials to assist in your preparation for the FD1 finals exam. I passed FD1 in the year just gone, and the biggest game changer for me was exam technique. I’m hoping to provide you with exam technique tips and commentary on aspects of the exam in a format that can be digested on the bus or tube. My aim is to help you to pass.

Any views expressed on this site are, of course, my own.

I’m happy for you to contact me at any time about the UK Patent Exams if you have a question, and I’ll try and help where I am able.

If you’re wondering why it’s Loki’s Patent Blog, it is dedicated to my cat who used to keep me company whilst I was studying for my finals exams.

If any tutors or examiners would like to make a guest contribution, please e-mail me to see if we can work out how to make it happen.
